The 2022-23 season for the Phoenix Suns ended on a down note when they were eliminated from the playoffs by the eventual NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets. However, they retooled and added Bradley Beal in order to keep fιghting for the championship. The shift was felt strongly by all teams in the league. The Suns’ top guard had a hard time understanding his role in the team’s goals due to the makeup of the roster.
“When I initially heard Phoenix was in play, I kind of questioned it,” Beal told SLAM via ClutchPoints. My initial thought was, “Are they trading [Devin Booker]? It’s not possible that this is actually taking place.‘ The statements made by the three-time All-Star might be taken in two different directions. Although it’s unlikely, he may have thought Booker would be moved in exchange for him. Or, Beal reasoned that, given their similarities in playing style, he and the Kentucky product would never play on the same court at the same time. It’s evident that the 30-year-old was shocked when he initially heard the news, whatever he meant by that.
However, it’s safe to assume Bradley Beal is pleased with the outcome, as he now has an immediate impact on a playoff team. During his time with the Washington Wizards, meaningful spring basketball was scarce, especially in the final two seasons. He recognizes the great fortune bestowed upon him by joining a world-class squad.
